«Mass media useful for the connection and not for the relation»

Antonio Masiero By Antonio Masiero | junio 01, 2012 | Italy

In the great plenary conference room of Mico, a varied audience has been involved in a multimedia and interactive communication event conducted by the journalist of TV2000 Fabio Bolzetta, the theme was “family and global communication, the need of a change of relation”.

Together with the speekers' interventions, there were numerous evidences and quotes of the audience: some videos have marked the thematic passages and several incentives that came from the Internet Facebook and Twitter. In this way a significant moment of reflection and comparison on the biggest themes, that the global communication and the usage of technological instruments have for people and families' lives, has been created .

Which are the worst problems about the education and the communication among young people?  How can we regulate the use of all the means of connection which are by now available for everyone and above all young people?                            “We must ask for humility and realism to our heterogeneous media, because they often transmit a distorted reality” affirmed Josè Luis Restan, expert in information and director of radio and multimedia programs,  “We mustn't let the media the educational task, which is of the family, even in situations of weakness and fragility which often characterize our society. The family has the task to transmit the sense of life, that we can not expect from the most popular and common programs” .

“We realize that media can be a support for the growth of chidren”  Latinamericans agreed in their speeches  “but we want to be a lively subject of the communication and we give importance to the human relationship, to sharing with firends at home and outside because the virtual contact can not replace the personal one”.  “Using the media as a relation factor and not only as connection: Facebook creates the net but not the community unless people want to do community. The web can not replace the personal testimony and much less of cathechesis,  it is possible to select alternative sources about the religios information in order to prevent of being manipulated by partial vision and wrong information”. Norberto Gonzales Gaitano underlined, professor of Public Opinion and Ethics at the Pontificial University of Santa Croce. “The web can be a unifying instrument for the family and we can find different information about the faith but also several questions about the research and the sense”.

It comes to preparing parents and children to “decode the media” and the classical solutions of how educating children to the media in the family don't work anymore: we have always media in our hands and this allows us the access to the net everywhere. Parents don't have time to intervine: it is due to the frenetic pace of our life style. What shall we do?  “Less control, more government, where government means wisdom, balance and serenity in relationship; on the other hand the control underlines fear and inadequacy” adviced Pier Cesare Rivoltella, Professor of General didactis and Educational Technologies. “The key word is responsability”.

The pedagogy of the contract emerges to create responsability and it is built through the dialogue in order to obtain a real educational experiance and in order that the young people realize to question what they have learnt. The family has to accept the great challenge everyday and it has to put the media under criticism.
