Rick Santorum, the conservative candidate for the Republican nomination for the White House, announced Monday he will suspend the campaign in order to attend his daughter Bella

Little Isabella, 3 years, suffers from a rare chromosomal abnormality   (trisomy 18 or Edwards syndrome)  which severely retards brain development.  Usually the sufferer will die within the first year of life.  Bella  is currently in hospital for the second time in a few weeks.

Rick Santorum, who this weekend took a break in his campaign for Easter holiday,  would resume campaigning Monday in Pennsylvania,  his home state,  city will host on April 24 the primary.       The conservative candidate, fervent Catholic and a strong opponent of abortion and gay marriage,  had already canceled some stages  of campaign in January,  even as strategic in Florida,  following the hospitalization of Bella.   Santorum regularly evokes it when he meets the voters.  Santorum and his wife Karen have six children.  In 1996 they lost Gabriel, died shortly after a premature birth.

Former Senator from Pennsylvania, Santorum is the second race ahead of Republican nomination.  But Santo, as he calls the U.S. press, is well behind former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney,  the now more than likely opponent of U.S. President Barack Obama for presidential on November 6.

“The entire Santorum family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support”  said campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley.
