Salerno, February 2015 – Ahead of this year’s EXPO 2015, the Focus of the Italian Food and Agriculture Sector moved to Salerno, where the Italy Food World Summit is holding on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 February. The international event is promoted by the VéGé Group – the first Italian large-scale retail distribution group – and sponsored by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and the City of Salerno.
The summit will focus on the key issues relating to the future of the Italian food and agriculture sector such as the protection of the Made in Italy industry, the sector’s top-quality production standards and the development of further export channels. Representatives of the institutions converged on Salerno for the event, including Paolo De Castro, Ermete Realacci and Renato G. Turano, as will a range of illustrious foreign guests, such as representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the Regional Government of Moscow.
Nonetheless, the primary focus of the summit is Italian SMEs in the food and agriculture sector who wish to launch or broaden their presence in the international market. The event will offer them the opportunity to engage directly with important figures in such areas as Commercial Policies, Distribution and the Restaurant Industry from three key markets for Italian food production: USA, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
This year’s Italy Food World Summit will be notable for its emphasis on pragmatism, choosing to make the leap from “speaking about internationalisation” to “practising internationalisation”. Discussion groups will allow Italian businesses to engage in one-on-one discussions with entrepreneurs and import experts from the United States, the Russian Federation and Dubai.
The decision to choose Salerno as the setting for the event is also significant. The city was selected not just for the hospitality on offer in the Campanian capital, but also due to its location at the heart of a vast area rich in quality food products and notable for its thriving network of food and agriculture businesses.
The support of the VéGé Group is a true reflection of the Group’s philosophy. Since the economic boom years, the Group has worked hard to mould the modern Italian distribution system and today shows its continued commitment to promoting a process culture, tackling the delicate, complex subject of the links between industry and distribution on the international scale.
“By supporting the Italy Food World Summit, the VéGé Group continues its long tradition of serving the industry as a whole, a trait which has always positioned us at the cutting edge of the distribution world,” confirms Nicola Mastromartino, president of the VéGé Group. “Moreover, promoting greater understanding of the mechanisms and processes that ensure the presence of Italian products in international markets will give renewed impetus to the optimisation of production chains, one of the VéGé Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility targets.”
