The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has significantly enhanced Italian-American relations by appointing Paolo Messa as the Executive Vice President for International Relations and Strategic Partnerships. This announcement, made on April 4, 2024, in Washington, D.C., signifies an essential advancement in strengthening the cultural, economic, and political connections between the United States and Italy.

I know Paolo Messa personally and can attest to his unwavering commitment and expertise in fostering international relations. His appointment at NIAF represents a crucial development in Italian-American ties, setting the stage for a promising partnership focused on celebrating and expanding our shared heritage and opportunities.

With a rich background of over twenty years, Paolo Messa has been pivotal in elevating Italy's profile globally. His roles as the founder of Formiche magazine and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Leonardo US Corporation demonstrate his skill in international diplomacy. As a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, his dedication to transatlantic relations aligns seamlessly with NIAF's goals.

NIAF's President, Robert Allegrini, expressed enthusiasm for Messa's joining, noting, "Paolo's extensive experience in Italy's strategic sectors uniquely positions him to enhance our international initiatives. His leadership and vision are precisely what NIAF needs to extend and deepen our outreach."

Messa's responsibilities will include leading NIAF's international relations efforts and launching programs and events to bolster U.S.-Italy bilateral relationships. His extensive experience, including significant positions at the Center for American Studies in Rome and contributions to RAI and Conai, as well as his academic and think tank engagements, equip him for this endeavor.

Upon accepting this role, Messa shared, "I am honored to contribute to such a meaningful cause aimed at nurturing the ties between these two distinguished nations. I eagerly anticipate promoting greater understanding and cooperation between the United States and Italy."

Messa plans to divide his time between Washington, D.C., and Italy, reflecting his commitment to fostering a strong bond between the countries. His leadership is expected to enhance cultural and educational exchanges and strengthen economic links, heralding a bright future for Italian-American relations.

With Paolo Messa at the helm, NIAF is set to embark on a new chapter where the deep-rooted heritage and shared values of Italy and the United States are celebrated and harnessed for mutual benefit. The foundation looks forward to an enriched bilateral relationship that promises lasting cultural, educational, and economic advantages for both nations. My interactions with Paolo and our shared vision for the future underscore my confidence in the transformative potential of this collaboration, marking the dawn of a new era in Italian-American relations.
