The 20 year old American Culpo Olivia was crowned Miss Universe 2012 during the night in the final of the 61st edition of the competition, which was held at the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas.
Born in Rhode Island, third of five children of an Italian-American father and an Irish mother, but with Italian ancestors, the young woman was crowned in Las Vegas from 10 judges who chose her among 89 competitors.
The new queen, former Miss USA, has beaten 88 other competitors and she shows the title in the United States for the first time in 15 years. The last American to win the title of best in the world was in fact Brook Lee in 1997.
Olivia, who sings and plays the cello, is 65 feet high. In the final parade she wearing a red dress with long sleeves.
It is the eighth time that a Miss Universe comes from the United States, but this is the first successful American since 1997
